WHO: Senior Citizens Inc. (SCI) is proud to celebrate 65 years of serving older adults across coastal Georgia. As the region’s trusted expert in aging, SCI provides vital services such as Meals on Wheels, neighborhood centers, DayBreak Respite Care, and adult day care. Through its mission to help people age successfully, SCI supports the health, independence, and dignity of thousands of older adults each year.

WHAT: SCI is launching its annual Fan Drive, collecting new box fans to distribute to older adults who are especially vulnerable during Savannah’s extreme summer heat and humidity. Older adults without air conditioning or the means to cool their homes are at serious risk of heat-related illness or complications.

Community members are encouraged to:

  • Drop off new box fans at SCI’s headquarters
  • Make a donation to help SCI purchase fans for those in need

Fans will be distributed to eligible older adults on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

WHEN: The Fan Drive officially kicks off on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 and will continue through the end of August, 2025.

Patti Lyons is available at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 for media interviews to discuss the urgent need for this summer’s Fan Drive and the broader challenges facing older adults in our community.

WHERE: Senior Citizens, Inc. 3025 Bull Street, Savannah GA

WHY: Older adults are more susceptible to heat stress, especially those living alone or on fixed incomes. Something as simple as a box fan can provide comfort, safety, and peace of mind during the hottest months of the year. This community-driven effort is one of many ways SCI continues to carry out its mission-65 years strong-of ensuring older adults can age with dignity, independence, and support.
