WHAT:
Senior Citizens Inc. will host a March for Meals media event in Midway to highlight the impact of its Meals on Wheels program and raise awareness about the importance of supporting older adults in coastal Georgia.
The annual March for Meals campaign commemorates the anniversary of the Older Americans Act, the landmark federal legislation that helps provide funding for nutrition programs like Meals on Wheels.
For more than 65 years, Senior Citizens Inc. has delivered Meals on Wheels throughout coastal Georgia, providing nutritious meals, daily wellness checks, and friendly visits to older adults who are homebound or unable to prepare meals for themselves. The organization recently reached a significant milestone—delivering its 7 millionth Meals on Wheels meal—and today prepares and delivers approximately 1,800 meals each day.
The event will begin with brief remarks from Patti Lyon, President of Senior Citizens Inc. and Midway Mayor Malcolm Williams, followed by a Meals on Wheels delivery to a local Liberty County client
Midway Mayor Malcolm Williams will join Senior Citizens Inc. for the event, which will begin with brief remarks at Midway Town Hall highlighting the role Meals on Wheels plays in helping older adults remain healthy, independent, and connected to their communities.
Following the remarks, Mayor Williams will accompany the Meals on Wheels delivery team to personally deliver a meal to a local Liberty County senior.
