Savannah, Ga. – Senior Citizens, Inc. (SCI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people age successfully,  announced today at an official groundbreaking that construction on a new Center for Successful Aging has begun.  The new state-of-the-art Center will be located at SCI’s current campus located at 3025 Bull Street and the Center, along with renovations throughout the campus.

Local dignitaries and community leaders joined SCI volunteers and board leadership at the SCI campus for the groundbreaking event where SCI President Patti Lyons announced, “Soon older adults in the Savannah area will have a better place for accessing services they need, for fellowship, and for learning, thanks to the generosity of individuals, corporations, and foundations.  We also look forward to being able to serve more Seniors as we grow our space to accommodate those who need us in our expanded Ruth Byck Adult Day Health program.”

Serving the Savannah community for the past 60 years, SCI provides over 10 major programs and services that address the changing needs of the aging population, including physical, intellectual, community and overall well-being.  Over the next 15 years, the percentage of older adults (60+) in the Savannah area will increase from 28 percent to 48 percent of the population.  To meet this growing need, SCI, a national leader in services for older adults, must expand and enhance the services they offer.

SCI contracted with West Construction to build the project and the Center is scheduled for completion in 18 months. West Construction President Matt West notes, “The new Center of Successful Aging will be a significant addition to the critically important programs that SCI provides to Savannah.  We’ve been overwhelmed by the community’s support and are proud to play a part in making this project a reality.”
