Savannah, GA – Savannah State University (SSU) is accepting nominations for the 2024 SSU Founders Day awards until Nov. 1, 2024.
The awards recognize those who have served the school and made its foundation stronger. The Richard R. Wright Award of Excellence honors individuals or organizations who have distinguished themselves through their expertise in social, educational and civic arenas. The Cyrus G. Wiley Distinguished Alumni Award honors former students with notable local, regional or national achievements who have demonstrated extraordinary support and loyalty to SSU.
SSU will recognize the honorees at Founders Day at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 14, 2024 in the Student Union Ballroom with special guest speaker Damon Elmore, Executive Director of the State Bar of Georgia. The event, which is open to the public, celebrates the rich heritage, legacy, traditions, and dedication to education and academic excellence of Georgia’s first public historically black college and university (HBCU) and those who have contributed to its success. The Georgia General Assembly founded the institution as the Georgia State Industrial College for Colored Youths on Nov. 26, 1890.
