SAVANNAH, GA – Savannah Speech and Hearing Center (SSHC) is proud to announce that we received the Women United Transportation Fund Mini-Grant from United Way of the Coastal Empire to help eliminate transportation barriers in our community. United Way of the Coastal Empire’sWomen Who Rule event, held annually in March, raises funds for residents across our region who need dependable transportation.
United Way’s Women United Transportation Fund connects community members to dependable transportation to get to work, school, medical appointments, and vital access to resources like food, job training, and other important services. The fund provides gas cards, bus passes, and may even cover minor car repairs to ensure reliable transportation.
This fund has made an extraordinary difference for several SSHC clients by enabling survivors of stroke living with physical impairments to make it to our center for weekly support group meetings, in easing the financial burden of families of limited means who travel sometimes over an hour each way for their children’s therapy appointments, and also in helping cochlear implant candidates travel to Jacksonville for surgery.

Since 1954, Savannah Speech & Hearing Center has been committed to providing comprehensive speech, hearing, language, and other therapeutic services that empower and transform the lives of both children and adults, regardless of financial ability.
