Susan Hancock – Full Bio

Susan M. Hancock has more than 25 years of professional experience in non-profit management, resource development, strategic planning, training, facilitation, community relations and organizational development, working with a diverse group of community leaders.

She began her career in politics working for U.S. Congressman Lindsay Thomas and U.S. Senator Sam Nunn before entering the non-profit field. For over five years, Susan worked with the Northwest Georgia Girl Scout Council in Atlanta, overseeing membership and fund development initiatives.

After moving to Savannah in 1989, Susan began a 16-year career with the United Way of the Coastal Empire as Vice President of Resource Development. During Susan’s tenure at United Way, she was responsible for raising more than $100,000,000 for the Savannah community.

In 2005, Susan joined Abshire Public Relations where she is now President of the firm. She oversees business development and client relations and serves as the company’s chief financial officer.

Susan is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations. She is a member of the Board of Trustees for Savannah Christian Preparatory School, a member of the Junior League of Savannah, chair of the Development Committee for the Board of Historic Savannah Foundation, a charter board member for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a member of the planning committee for The Savannah Children’s Museum and a children’s Sunday School teacher at Wilmington Island United Methodist Church.

She is a graduate and past board member of both Leadership Georgia and Leadership Savannah. Susan has volunteered for Greenbriar Children’s Center for many years and is a past board chair for The Coastal Children’s Advocacy Center.

Susan and her husband, William, are the proud parents of three teenage daughters.
