Community Relations

APR firmly believes a solid public relations plan of action is not solely focused on reaching key media targets, but also places a strong emphasis on forging successful community partnerships and making strategic connections within the communities our clients do business. A key goal of any successful business should be to align the interest of the community with the company’s long-term business strategies and goals.

A community relations plan is fundamental in the health of any organization and no longer an afterthought in core business strategy. In our experience, clients who proactively invest in being a good neighbor and increase their social and civic responsibilities gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. Time and again, our clients have experienced the value of building key community partnerships, which have not only helped increase public awareness of their business and products, but increased revenue.

Corporate America understands the value of positive community relations, as oftentimes the return on investment is priceless. In fact, recent studies have shown budgets that support community relations initiatives are on the upswing. A strong community relations plan lays the foundation for positive reinforcement should any negative publicity or company crises come along.

A proper community relations plan should build positive and long-term relationships with key leaders and influencers, support issues of sensitivity or urgency within the community and should continually demonstrate the company’s commitment to the community through its actions and communications.

Examples of some community relationship-building activities include:

  • Meet with key community influencers, including government, business and religious leaders
  • Develop philanthropic initiatives to support area nonprofits and community neighborhoods
  • Identify top areas of need within the community and make charitable donations
  • Serve on advisement and community boards
  • Organize employee volunteer efforts
  • Offer free job training programs or resources for students
  • Provide sponsorship dollars for community and nonprofit events

APR can help develop a strategic community relations plan to take your company to the next level of success. To begin, we will help define your community relations vision statement, create or identify relationship-building activities/or events, and utilize the company’s resources, both people and financial, to support important needs within the community. APR will lend our decades of leadership experience and first-hand knowledge of regional influencers to help make proactive introductions to key industry contacts, influencers and community leaders to enhance your existing community relationships with a few of our own.
