#SocialMediaGoals

Friday, February 03, 2017

Recently, I had the honor of being asked to participate on a panel discussion for the Tourism Leadership Council. TLC serves as the leading trade organization for tourism, an industry with more than 26,000 employees and a $2.5 billion economic impact in the Savannah area.

One question I was asked related to what a company should aim to achieve with social media. As any good Southerner can attest, storytelling is where it’s at. You may want to use social media...

Partnering with Mils

Tuesday, December 13, 2016

Over the last week, I have been immersed with millennial professionals  - yes I am calling them mils - why has nobody used this term before? - who have helped me nail some great work for our clients. They are video production rock stars (thebckyrd.com), web designers (Clark Creative), social media/copywriters (Port City PR) and brand consultants (Flourish). A few great lessons I gathered:

 - Mils want to show you how smart they are - and they are wicked smart. They look at items with a different lens. Less judgment, less...

#GivingTuesday -- Let it Be Your Year-end Inspiration!

Friday, December 02, 2016

This past Tuesday was #GivingTuesday, which followed behind Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving, mainly fueled through social media to inspire people to give back to their communities. This year marked the fifth year anniversary of this day, which was started as a movement to celebrate and support giving to charity.

In reality, year-end giving has been around for a long time, as is usually evident from the amount of year-end appeal letters we receive in our mailboxes this time of year from an array of charitable causes...all worthy in their own right.

Lessons from The Crown

Friday, November 25, 2016

Who else is watching Netflix’s compelling and addictive series The Crown, all about Queen Elizabeth II’s ascendance to the throne? She became Queen just shy of her 26th birthday, after her father, King George VI, passed away. Elizabeth’s journey to the monarchy was a circuitous one. When her uncle, King Edward VII, abdicated the throne to marry the American divorcée  Wallis Simpson, Elizabeth’s father Bertie became King George VI and the die was cast.

Tell Your Story

Friday, November 18, 2016

Over the last decade, the public relations industry has evolved the way it approaches impacting a business’s bottom line. The PR professional that once sought the sexy two-page spread in a glossy print piece has augmented that elusive dangling carrot to include mastering the digital world of 24/7 media and DIY content.

When I first came to Abshire PR as an intern nearly eight years ago, I remember Jennifer Abshire handing me a book called, Putting the Public Back in Public Relations: How Social Media Is Reinventing the Aging Business of PR. In short, the book predicts the end of “yesterday’s PR” and paints a...

Please and Thank You

Friday, November 11, 2016

By Nancy Fullbright

Say “please” and “thank you.” It’s one of the first lessons we learned as children and, if you were born a southerner, you were probably also taught to say “yes ma’am” and “no sir.”

I vividly remember my mother requiring me (sometimes forcing me) to write thank you notes as a child and teenager. I knew it was expected of me and was the right thing to do. I’ve carried on that tradition today, insisting my nephews write thank you notes when friends do something nice for them (invite them for dinner, let them swim in their pool).

Influencers: Your Unused Pot of Gold

Friday, August 19, 2016

Influence: the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.

Every single one of us is influenced by others actions and opinions on a daily basis.  We all have people we trust, admire, and look to for advice and information.  Why not garnish that power to influence others to use our product or service?  Yes, we can send the pretty press release, create a sensational news story, or throw the grand opening of the year. But, does that gain loyal followers and customers?  The answer: hardly!  It may allow for media attention that week but there needs...

Lessons from Interns

Friday, August 12, 2016

It’s hard to believe (especially when you live in the 100+ degree heat in Savannah), but summer is drawing to a close. One of the busiest seasons for public relations -- the fall -- will be upon us soon.

The end of summer also means students -- in particular, interns -- will be going back to school. At Abshire Public Relations, we have been especially blessed to be able to work with some super talented, smart and vivacious public relations students.

While there are a lot of articles about what interns can do to get the most out of their internships, they are...
