New Year’s Eve Fireworks, Tybee Polar Plunge Make Tybee Island the Perfect Place to Ring in the New Year

WHAT:         New Year’s Eve Extravaganza. Ring in the New Year with a spectacular fireworks display at the stroke of midnight at the Tybee Pier & Pavilion on Tybee Island, Georgia. The New Year’s Eve Fireworks can be enjoyed from the pier, the beach or anywhere on the eastern side of Tybee Island. This popular annual event is free and open to the public

On New Year’s Day, take a brisk plunge into the Atlantic Ocean at the 2013 Tybee Polar Plunge. This year’s plunge welcomes the return of the “Gang of Goofs” contest. Everyone is invited to dress up in funny and wacky costumes for a chance to parade in front of an esteemed panel of judges and to win great prizes. There is no fee to enter the “Gang of Goofs” contest; $25 entry fee to take the plunge, which includes a long-sleeve Tybee Polar Plunge t-shirt. All event proceeds benefit the restoration of the historic Tybee Post Theater on Tybee Island. The Friends of the Tybee Theater, Inc., is a 501 (3) (c) non-profit corporation, formed in 2001. In 2006, the organization purchased the Tybee Post Theater from the Tybee Historical Society and has been working since that time to reopen the theater.
