Savannah Community Foundation Pledges $5,000 to Help Stabilize W.W. Law House in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. Historic Savannah Foundation (HSF), a leading preservation organization committed to protecting Savannah’s heritage, recently received a matching pledge of $5,000 from the Savannah Community Foundation to help stabilize the W.W. Law House at 710 W. Victory Drive in Savannah.

The pledge from the Savannah Community Foundation’s Immediate Needs Fund will match $5,000 pledged by HSF and another $5,000 currently being raised by the W.W. Law Foundation to restore the former home of Savannah’s late Civil Rights leader.

“We’re delighted to support such an important local cause,” said K. Russell Simpson, president of The Savannah Community Foundation, Inc. “W.W. Law made Savannah a better place for everyone.  We want to help preserve his legacy for future generations.”

In July, HSF offered a $5,000 challenge grant to the W.W. Law Foundation in an effort to raise money to restore the historic W.W. Law House.  If the W.W. Law Foundation raises $5,000 before September 1, 2011, Historic Savannah Foundation will donate $5,000 in matching funds to help with structural repairs to the building’s foundation.

The W.W. Law Foundation accepted HSF’s grant challenge last month and is actively soliciting donations from supporters for the remaining $5,000 now needed.

“The W.W. Law House is a cultural treasure in the  Cuyler-Brownville Historic District, but it is in urgent need of emergency repairs,” said Daniel Carey, president and CEO of Historic Savannah Foundation.  “We’re joining forces to ensure this building’s future.”

“After the cover story about our firm’s 20-year anniversary ran in Business in Savannah, we received calls from investors and dozens of comments from others on the street. I now believe in PR done right.”

“As a small business owner, I always thought public relations was for the “Big Companies.”  We decided to give Abshire PR a shot with the promotion of our grand opening for LuckySavannah Vacation Rentals.  To my surprise, we signed up a new vacation property owner as a direct result of APR’s work. For me, APR and their services went from vague and unnecessary to concrete, essential and profitable.”

“Abshire PR’s focused strategy allowed our small, regionally-recognized startup reach a national audience in a short period of time. Their recommendations allowed us to be published in several nationally distributed publications in less than 60 days. We’d definitely turn to APR when we need to create our next big buzz!”

“APR is the gold standard in reaching the news media about HSF’s events and projects. They consistently go above and beyond the call of duty and make us feel like their top client.”
