Can You Define the Next Visionary?

The “2011 ThincSavannah Visionary Award” brings to light one very important question – what qualities must someone embody to land in the “Visionary” box?

Ignoring the obvious historical greats such as Leonardo DaVinci, Socrates, Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein, all unique individually but collectively united by ingenious foresight that ultimately made our world a better place and inspired others to follow suit – today’s visionary could be your neighbor, best friend or child’s favorite teacher at school.

Merriam-Webster considers a “Visionary” to be a leader having or marked by foresight and imagination.

Here’s what APR thinks a “Visionary” should be:

  • An agent of change, transcending complacent societal norms that the rest of us find hard to refuse.
  • Usually ten steps ahead with their eyes on the horizon, not today.
  • While we sleep, they are dreaming up solutions.
  • They think vertical, not lateral.
  • They are strategic in movement, like the perfectly played game of chess.
  • They manifest change. If only the rest of us could be so excited about this concept.
  • They are the exception to the rule.
  • They have no problem balancing right brain (rational), left brain (intuitive) functions. Is that even possible?

So while most of us are set back a few times before we actually pass GO, the ultimate “Visionary” has figured out a way to buy Boardwalk and Park Place – twice.
